PASTOR’S PEN . . .
by Pastor Dave Templin

IN TWO WEEKS we begin 40 Days of Purpose, a 6-week spiritual growth campaign that is designed to answer the question, “What on earth am I here for?”

Together, our entire church family will learn about God’s five purposes for our lives, and we will have opportunities to take steps of growth in each of the five purposes.   (continued)

40 Days of Purpose.  It’s here! Our 40 Days of Purpose campaign has finally arrived this month.

Join us on Saturday, March 12th 10:00am- Noon in Heritage Hall for a brunch kickoff celebration!

You will hear the overview of the program and the five emphases; Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry and Evangelism and what each week under these emphases will entail.

You will also receive your book, reading assignment list and much more!

Don’t miss this great opportunity to get together and learn about this great opportunity!

For more information you can contact Kurt Imbach @ 678-8032 or come to Grand Central in Heritage Hall each Sunday after worship.

Per Capita Each year the Presbyterian Church receives from its member congregations particular funds based on the active membership of each congregation.

These funds are used to provide many of the administrative expenses involved in the work of the church without unduly impacting the offerings given for mission.  And, as they are collected “per capita” – the same amount for each active member – it is the most equitable way to share these operational costs across the church.

For 2005 the total Per Capita cost is $39.93 per person.  This amount is composed of three parts supporting the local presbytery ($26.26), our synod ($8.10), and the General Assembly ($5.57).

You’ll find elsewhere in this issue of the LOG a brochure from the PCUSA General Assembly detailing where the G.A. portion of per capita goes.  It will give you an idea of how these funds are used at the various levels of the church.

Many people help in supporting the church budget by contributing separately in addition to their pledge to cover the Per Capita amount.

If you would like to do so, you may make out a check to Whidbey Presbyterian Church for the total per person amount and include it in the offering plate on Sunday morning.

Thanks for your support!

Free Tax Preparation This is the nation’s largest, free, volunteer-run tax preparation service offered to all taxpayers who are within certain criteria.

This criteria permits preparation of most non-complex forms and the service will be available at the following locations until April 15th.

Oak Harbor Library:         Tuesdays -  1pm to 7pm

Bayview Senior Center:        Thursdays - 1pm to 7pm

Coupeville Library:              Fridays - Noon to 3:00pm

Taxpayers should bring a copy of their 2003 tax return, social security card, W-2’s and all tax related documents. Picture ID is advised if possible.

Most returns will be prepared on IRS furnished computers and free filing is available.

Presbyterian Women.   Our February meeting was very laid back, but we completed a lot of the hospital gowns needed in Africa. Dessert was delicious, provided by our hostesses Helen Stimple and Peggy Carl. Thank you, ladies.

Learning about a different hymn at each meeting is great.

Presbyterian Women will meet on March 17th for our regular meeting with a minor change. Instead of Dottie Villesvik, our speaker will be Laura LeDesky.

Laura will present “More musings on our mission in El Salvador.”

Bring your sack lunch at noon.

We will hear Dottie at a later date. In March, she will be attending a Peacemakers Conference, concentrating in the Middle East. Please pray.

The Bible Studies are moving along; evening study on the second Wednesday at 7:00pm and the morning study back to routine of first and third Thursday at 10:30am. Please read chapters 16 &17 for our March 3rd study in the Blue House. Margaret Dilly will lead.

A short reminder - Please remember to save your Marketplace receipts. Marketplace is still donating a percentage of what we spend there. It’s a great, easy fundraiser!

Sincere Thank You!  Thank you to all of our friends at WPC who have sent cards and notes on the death of Bill's father.  And a special thank you for all the food provided for the family during the weekend of the memorial service.  It is so comforting to have such demonstrations of your love and support.
