Youth News from Justin . . .

by Justin Ross

We have just had four of our high school students complete Youth in Leadership Training at Tall Timber Ranch.  Tall Timber has high school students from all over the state apply to attend this each summer, and it is amazing that we had four students from our congregation accepted this year.  YILT is best summed up as intensive 2 week training in all manner of leadership.  They experience everything from late night worship, to high elements initiatives, and even a solo night fast on a mountain, where it is just them and the Lord.  In other Tall Timber news, keep me in your prayers this week.  By the time you are reading this, I will be the main speaker at Tall Timber.  I take the challenge of presenting God’s Word to young people very seriously and I am able in accomplish this in fun, interactive ways.  I am excited to let you know how the week goes.

The High School Youth Group has just recently returned from our mission trip to Campbell Farm and what an amazing time we had.  We were able to work in the local Northwest Harvest Food Bank packing food to be delivered all over the state.  We also spent a couple of days at the local community center reading with the kids in the morning and swimming and playing games with them in the afternoon.  We also spent a day working at the Union Gospel Mission in Yakima; and a day doing chores on the farm.  At night we were able to meet a lady who has been a pastor of a Native American church on the reservation for many years.  She shared many touching stories about her experiences.  We also had a night where all of the local kids were invited to the farm for a picnic and we were able to share bible stories, do face painting, drama, arts & crafts, and play games.  The amazing thing is that yes, we were able to fit all of this into one week.  The Lord was definitely at work as we used our hands and opened our hearts.  I am excited for you to have the opportunity to hear the experiences of the students who so freely served on this trip.  Thanks so much for the support we received from the congregation.  We worked hard, we made a difference, and we made Jesus smile.
